Hardin Honda Recognized with 2023 Honda Environmental Leadership Award for its Energy-Saving Measures and Environmentally Responsible Operations

Honda “Green Dealer” Program contributes to company-wide goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050

Anaheim, CA- April, 2023– Hardin Honda has earned the respected 2023 Honda Environmental Leadership Award, which recognizes Honda dealerships for measurably reducing the environmental impact of its business operations.

The Honda Green Dealer Program recognized Hardin Honda for achieving environmental targets based on a verified reduction in energy use and a rigorous assessment developed specifically for dealerships that incorporates environmental improvement measures. Hardin Honda implemented numerous high impact dealership improvements.

“As a Honda Green Dealer, we continuously look for ways to improve the energy efficiency and environmental performance of our operations,” said, manager, Robert Bechtloff .“With our commitment to environmental sustainability, we aim to make a positive difference in Anaheim,CA.”

Through the voluntary Honda Green Dealer Program, Honda provides dealers with guidance on sustainable site practices, electrification, water conservation and CO2 reduction efforts, such as installation of solar panels, LED lighting and networked thermostat controls. Since the program’s launch in 2011, the average dealership has reduced energy use by 20%, saving an average of $20,000 per year and $34 million in energy costs over the last 10 years.

“Our Green Dealers have collectively reduced CO2 emissions by more than 177,000 metric tons, which is equal to eliminating the annual CO2 emissions associated with electricity use by over 21,000 homes,” said Navi Uppal, manager of the Honda Environmental Leadership Program. “As Honda works toward its company-wide goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, we’re pleased that so many of our dealers are joining Honda’s commitment to build a sustainable future.”

For over three decades, Honda has been working to reduce the environmental impact of its products, manufacturing and logistics operations, and facilities in North America. These initiatives are reported annually in the Honda North American Environmental Report. Expanding its environmental initiatives to the Honda dealer network was a logical step in the company’s effort to reduce waste, energy use, and CO2 emissions across the full spectrum of its operations and throughout the lifecycle of Honda products, including at the point of sale.

Honda Commitment to the Environment
Honda is committed to addressing global environmental and energy issues by striving to realize carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050. Toward this goal, Honda will strive to make battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles represent 100% of auto sales in the U.S. and globally by 2040.

Honda also is working to reduce the environmental impact of its business operations. To slash CO2 emissions from its North American manufacturing operations, Honda has entered into long-term virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) for renewable wind and solar power seeking to cover more than 60% of the electricity that Honda uses in North America. This enables the company to fully offset the remaining carbon intensive grid-supplied electricity used in its Ohio, Indiana, and Alabama automobile manufacturing operations. Honda also promotes environmentally responsible business practices with its suppliers and retail dealer partners across North America.
